Product Description SIDE SWIPE Dodge Viper Transformers Alternators
Editorial Review The problem with some transforming toys is that, in an effort to look believable enough in both iterations, they end up looking like nothing in particular. Not so with this very cool red Dodge Viper Transformer which is a dead ringer for the real car but also makes for a very respectable robot. The android form, slyly nicknamed "Side Swipe" is loads of fun, using the Viper engine as a big boxy pretend weapon and possessing excellent articulation. When the transformation is complete and Side Swipe becomes a car again, the rubber tires spin quite nicely and combine with solid construction, make this a great toy car even if you never chose to transform it. We were impressed with the realism of the Viper and, more importantly, the choice of the Viper for entry into the Transformer pantheon. Because let's face it, a robot that transforms into a VW Beetle or a mini-van would just not be all that intimidating. --Charlie Williams
My life would be complete with 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime, and I already have SmokescreenJuly 12, 2005 Side Swipe is awesome, but the red painting makes him bulky. In robot mode, I attach the black piece (which has an Autobot symbol) next to the windshield. The legs are pretty easy to transform than Meister's (Jazz's) legs. Yeah, I like Dodge Vipers because you get to look at your refection all the time. Smokescreen is kinda awesome, too, but when I get 20th Anniversary Prime, my life is complete with the Autobot soldiers! He isn't really labeled an Altenator, but he is part of the Alternator line. Even Ford Mustangs are coming soon. Now where was I? Oh yeah, about Side Swipe, his weapon is silver with red at the sides. Each side says, "VIPER". In vehicle mode, it is used as an engine. Every Alternator's weapons are used in vehicle mode engines. Tracks' color is more sleeker than Side Swipe's. Dead End is a remold of Side Swipe, and that means he's his enemy, but that doesn't mean Silverstreak is a remold of Smokesscreen and they're enemies, because they are both Autobots. Shockblast is a remold of Meister, and they're both enemies. Swerve and Ravage are both remolds of Tracks, and Tracks and Ravage are enemies and Tracks and Swerve are both Autobots. There are no enemies of Prowl,(a Honda Integra). Depthcharge is a remold of Windcharger, and they are both enemies. Swindle is a remold of Hound, and they are both enemies. Wheeljack is a remold of Grimlock, and they are both Autobots. Now I am back to Side Swipe. Hasbro made this Viper for you and me!
Nice figure - but a little complexOctober 7, 2004 The alternators line are really nice scale models in 1:24 and are in my opinion designed for the adult collector. (THis is why they are Die Cast in Japan in my opinion). The car looks awsome and no detail is too small. I don't think this one is good for kids as the transformation mode is a lot of steps with only bad pictographs to explain it. I had trouble getting it into robot mode and back I felt I really had to force the pieces I don't think a kid could strike the balance between creating the torque neccesary and breaking it. Once I got him to robot form Sideswipe is very posable and makes a pretty good action figure ( unlike classic Transformer bots). My recommendation for Transformer fans try to get the Japanese ones ( even at $50 they are much nicer) but for a low cost alternative not too bad. For Parents - skip this one You'll have to figure out how to change him and do it every time you son wants him changed or you'll have 2 broken parts)
If only SmokeScreen were as cool...August 25, 2004 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Wow. This is quite possibly--no, it IS the coolest transformer yet! The educational value comes from just studying this SCALE model of a Dodge Viper. You might be thinking "Hey. If you like THIS Alternator so much, why don't you like the other one?" The answer, my friend, lies within the visual ramifications of the transformation. If you have or seen the other Transformers: Alternators character Smokescreen, then you might know that in the Vehicle Mode you can't see the cracks and stuff where it changes into the Robot Mode and it looks very cool and all that. But! When Smokescreen changes to Robot Mode, what you get to watch (in horror) is a beautiful model car lookalike change to an ugly, stupid, clunky, blocky, just dumb lookin' robot. Well...if you check out SideSwipe in both robot and vehicle form, HE LOOKS AWESOME! Plus I've always liked Dodge Vipers. Anyway...the reason why I LOVE SideSwipe is because you can play with it it with your other toy cars (he blends in rather well) ORRRR you can play with it with your other Transformers and action figures. If you got to this point in my review then that means you read it all. Thank you very much.
Catcha' later. -OmniPrime
Another great recreation of the classic G1 TransformersAugust 24, 2004 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm a longtime fan of the Transformers, and am again a collector of their original figures. Many of the originals look great in my opinion, but lack posability. I was interested when they began to produce larger versions of the original G1 characters, first with the awesome die cast 20th Anniversay Optimus Prime, followed by the first of the Alternators, Smokescreen, and now with Sideswipe. I have all of the said figures, having just bought Side Swipe yesterday, and I have to say I'm well pleased with each of them. For Side Swipe, although he was a Lamborgini in his original G1 incarnation, a Dodge Viper is now his alternate form. He's the same size as a model car in car mode, and would probably blend right in with any modelers' collection. Aside from some separation lines needed for transformation, it would be quiet difficult to realize he's not just a regular model! His Viper mode is well done, with a slick red color, rubber wheels, front wheels that turn in tandom (due to a couple of magnets), chromed rear view mirrors, and detailed interior. Very well done indeed. Take a look under his hood, and he even has a Chromed engine. Then comes the transformation. Remove the engine, swing out a barrel attached to it's underside to make it into a gun, and transform the rest of the figure. The front hood section becomes his legs and feet, the windsheild and middle of the car folds and becomes his body, and his head and arms are in the back or trunk area of the car. The outer section of the car's rear is on his back, almost like some kind of backpack or jetpack, which I think was unintentional but apropriate for this character, since in the G1 show Side Swipe had a jetpack. His car doors hang off the sides of his shoulders, with his back wheels being at his very shoulder itself. He also has a head that looks like his old show incarnation too, like his counterpart Smoke Screen does. The Viper mode looks exceptional, but his robot mode looks a tad weird, atleast to me. Don't get me wrong, he really looks good (look at the picture), but I think he's a bit odd looking with his chest and lower abdominal area all about the same width, while many characters have an upper chest that is wider and a lower body that's supposed to represent a "lean" look that a human might have. The car doors hanging off his shoulders isn't something I'm that thrilled about either. All minors touches though. Another thing I'm a bit disapointed in though, is that his knees can't bend that far, and you really can't move his legs up, as if to put him in a sitting position. Even with that included though, he's very well articulated, especially in the arms. Also, you might see that there are reports (I wrote one of them) of how difficult it is to transform Smoke Screan back into a car, and I am happy to anounce that no such problems exist here. Although a little complex, Side Swipe has no major issues where you'll go mad trying to fold his legs just right or anything. Only maybe small concerns when first getting the hang of transforming him. All in all, I think Side Swipe is a very good figure. My complaints are minor, only pointing out small flaws. He is a worthy addition to the Alternators line, and deserves the place of honor he has standing next to 20th Anniversary optimus Prime and Alternator Smoke Screen on my VCR.
Alternators = realistic looking cars and robotsAugust 8, 2004 The first thing that sticks out when looking at an alternator transformer is, whether or not you're looking at a model car, or a transforming robot. The detail were put into these toys, enough so to make them 1/24 models and they're still a toy! the Side Swipe car looks like a Viper. Logos and all. Though having him as a Ferrari (enzo?) would have been better. The next car which is coming out is the Ford Mustang. The car looks better, and the robot mode looks steller. Only problem with that, is the name, they picked Grimlock for the Mustang GT! Thus again, showing the only flaw with the Alternators. Though, they did a great job with Hound, matching him up with a Jeep Wrangler. Overall, this toy is great looking, and is made more for show, than for handling (toy use). Also the color variants (they're out there) also make nice collector pieces.

Takara Style MP Starscream Custom Box Seibertron member, Coolpop has found a interesting custom box for Masterpiece collectors, MP Starscream U.S. Edition in a TakaraTomy style box. Coolpop gives us his review:
Custom Made Takara Style Masterpiece MP-3 Package Set
This set is made by a Chinese TF fan and he only produced 50 sets of them (probably all sold out now). The fixed selling price was RMB150, plus all shipping and fees, it came out to be around RMB314 (I used Airmail for international shipping from China to USA), and this is about US$47.50 shipped.
The purpose of this custom package set is to convert US Masterpiece Starscream into Takara style Masterpiece packaging. Unlike another MP Starscream custom package set seen last year on eBay that only comes with outside color box (you put the whole US MP Starscream w/ original package into this custom box), this new set actually comes complete with inner plastic clampshell tray, plastic nose ; tail holder/divider, updated graphic/art instruction booklet ; character card.
US Masterpiece Starscream ; all accessories placed in the inner plastic clampshell tray
Side by side comparisons with origial Takara MP-3 Green Starscream:
Inner tray with toys ; accessories
Color instruction booklet ; character card (front). It's a pity that the creator decided to use actual toy shot instead of using toy art like the original booklet cover

Final comparison shot
Overall the quality of this custom package set is very good, I am very impressed with the extent of details the creator has paid attention to match with the original MP Starscream box and inserts (reshoot of the toy with correct position, angle, distance, light source, reflection, placement, art, font, color, etc.). I consider myself very fortunate to have the opportunity to purchase this custom box set, and it will surely add that extra specialty to my complete Masterpiece collection.
Later comment: So much for the 50 sets limited run, hahaha. I just found out the Chinese seller I bought from just put out 10 more sets for sale, I guess the creator saw both bigger demand and extra income, and he decided to pump out more.
It can be found on Taobao but only open to Chinese residents. Panli does allow foreign transactions.
Seibertron.com's First "Buried Treasure" Review - Cybertron Cannonball! The year 2009 marks the 25th anniversary of the Transformers franchise. To celebrate this incredible milestone, Seibertron.com will look back at a quarter-century of great Transformers toys, bringing back into the limelight some brilliant figures that have fallen through the cracks over the years.

We hope this feature will be a great success, and that many of you will be encouraged to look back at the last 25 years of Transformers and perhaps take a worthwhile second-look at some real unsung classics of the Transformers universe.
Buried Treasure - Cannonball (Cybertron series - 2006)
By Skowl
Avast ye Transformer fans! For the inaugural "Buried Treasure" Review, I decided to pick a figure that embodies the very notion of "buried treasure." Pirates have not been all that common in the franchise, and for years only the Beast Wars II Seacons could lay claim to that title. But all that changed during the amazing "Transformers Cybertron" line, when we were given a unique repaint of popular Autobot character.
The Red Alert mold had been released in the first wave of Deluxe figures and, from my memory, had been a decent hit with the fans. The mold was a vast improvement over the Armada Red Alert but still retained many of the character's traits. From the obvious "medic" element, to the sympathetic look on the head sculpt, to all the first aid tools and add-ons - it was obvious that the new Cybertron Red Alert mold was all-Autobot. Which is why many fans were so surprised to see the figure repainted later down the line... as a Decepticon!
Around the same time that the Autobot Red Alert got a massive upgrade, the deluxe-class Decepticon Cannonball was released. Perhaps the character, whose bio reveals him to be a looter of sorts, salvaged the old Red Alert toy and saw it as a good enough mold to use for himself!
It's difficult to write about any figure from the Cybertron line without mentionning the brilliant packaging. The series has come and gone, but it still had the most eye-catching packaging of any Transformers toy line I've ever seen. From the faction-shaped card backing to the brilliant character art, everything about the packaging was clean, sharp and just great to look at. With nice, dark colours and cool silver highlights, Cannonball blends in beautifully with the packaging, making him a great piece for any MOC/MIB collector.
But the real fun starts when you get this little buccaneer out of the packaging. It's amazing what a little paint can do, isn't it? Looking at Cannonball, it's difficult to tell he was once an Autobot ambulance (type thing). The dark colours give him a very menacing look, ressembling some sort of hearse, and the whole thing is beautifully decorated with sharp silver highlights, including silver trim and mag wheels, and wicked skull decals that really add alot of personality to the figure (as if a Transforming pirate wasn't cool enough already).
The old "Cyber Key" gimmick works just as well with Cannonball as it did with Red Alert. Just stick it in the slot at the rear end of the car and watch as some cannons flip out, ready to blow any landlubber to pieces (should I stop with the pirate jokes? They're just so easy to write!). Not an amazing feature, but still added value, especially since the key gimmick really doesn't get in the way of the toy's functionality.
His transformation, like Red Alert's, is unique and shows alot of creativity in the engineering. Cannonball's body is basically made from the middle of the car, while the front and back ends come together to form the legs.
Yes, Cannonball's vehicle mode is wicked, but it's his robot mode that really makes him shine. I doubt many people thought "pirate" when they first laid eyes on Cybertron Red Alert, but it works so well in robot mode you would think that's what the designers were aiming for all along. Red Alert's "gun-hand" and add-ons just scream pirate-y hook hanks and the black "eye-patch" over the left side of his visor is a real nice touch. The colours work really well in this mode, with the nice silver detailing continuing over his chest, shoulders and legs and the clear purple windows of his vehicle look great in the proper lighting. And don't forget how cool those blue skeleton decals look in robot mode - two on his shoulders and the big skull on his back. Sweet.
He is fairly poseable in robot mode, but lacks alot of movement in his legs. It's ok though, he more than makes up for it by having cool, interchangeable pirate weapons (handy for shooting blaggards in the face), a great colour scheme with lots of unique detail and an awesome bio. Heck, he doesn't need to be super-poseable, he looks great just standing there!
Cannonball is a brilliant figure and one of the best, most original repaints in the history of the franchise. His unique personality makes him a great addition to any collection, and a must have for pirate fans... if you can ignore the fact that this pirate transforms into a car of all things...
So set sail, collectors! This is one piece of Transformers treasure that should definately not stay buried!

Seibertron.com Reviews Soon To Be Released Glu Mobile 'Tranformers: G1 Awakening' Game Thanks to staff member Stormrider, I was given the chance to make contact with a member of Glu mobile;#x2019;s PR staff, and was able to play a demo of the soon to be released ;#x2018;Transformers: G1 Awakening;#x2019; game for cellular phones. Glu Mobile was very kind and even sent me a compatible phone loaded with the game to play, as they do not currently have a version available for the iPhone.
I was able to spend about a week with the game, wasting many precious hours, staying up until the wee early hours of the morning as I played the addicting game, and tried to experience as much of it as I could before I had to send the demo back....
First off we have Stealth, err, Goldbug... I mean ELITE GUARD BUMBLEBEE by Tamo536. Straight up repaint of the Original Animated Bumblebee, but according to the reviewer the 'stingers' are now able to better fit into the arms...
And also a huge picture montage courtesy of the Japanese Transformers Image Board showing Sentinel in package, with other Elite Guard members, and with the Headmaster unit firmly placed on his shoulders.
Everybody should want to get Sentinel as soon as they can...
